The G83 is the G82 M4 Convertible — the current open-top M4, and a very different car from the S55-era F83 it replaced. Same S58 twin-turbo six as the coupe (503 hp in the Competition), same all-wheel-drive grip, just with the folding roof and the weight and slight flex that come with it.

The key difference from the old convertible isn't the body — it's the engine. Where the F83's S55 made the crank hub the first order of business, the S58 carries no such caveat (full engine story on the G80 page). So the G83 builds exactly like the rest of the S58 cars, minus that one historical worry: a calibration brings out the same deep stock-turbo headroom, in the body for people who'd rather drop the roof than chase a lap time.

The honest trade is the convertible's added mass and a touch less rigidity than the coupe — the usual open-top compromise. But the platform is the G82's, one of the strongest BMW builds.

So the current open-top M4 is the drop-top you tune without an asterisk: S58 potential, sky overhead, none of the S55-era homework.

Before you tune.

Will my dealer flag the tune at service?

The bootmod3 flash is non-destructive and reversible. Revert to stock before a dealer appointment and the ECU is back to factory in a few minutes; re-flash after service. We document the revert step in writing so the next person opening your file knows what's there.

Is it safe for the engine?

Every tune we ship has been datalogged on the car it was written for. We look at knock counts, fuel trims, boost behavior, and intake temps before we sign off. If the numbers don't sit right, we revise. That review and the revision policy are built into what the tune costs.

How long until I have a working tune?

Most calibrations turn around in a few days. We log, review, and revise before anything ships — we would rather get it right than get it out fast.

Can I go back to stock?

Yes. bootmod3 supports a stock revert that returns the ECU to factory calibration in under five minutes. The flash is non-destructive — nothing in the BMW DME is permanently modified. Most owners revert before trade-in.
