The F48 is BMW's second-generation X1 — the front-wheel-drive (or xDrive) compact crossover BMW built on its UKL platform, sold 2016 to 2022 with the B48 turbo-four. F48 tuning is one of the quieter corners of our catalog: the X1 sits on the transverse UKL platform rather than the rear-drive 2/3/4 family our volume work centers on, and it was never a tuner-target body the way the coupes were. The engine underneath, though, is the same B48 we calibrate across the F22, F30, and G20.

The car we tune here is the X1 xDrive28i — the B48-powered trim the BM3 catalog covers. What we ship for it: BM3-native calibration on the B48, plus the supporting hardware that crosses over from the broader B48 parts list where the transverse engine bay allows it. Most owners start at Stage 1 — a calibration-only step on factory hardware. Stage 2 brings the aluminum charge pipe and a front-mount intercooler into the picture; the platform supports Stage 3 with the same hardware path the engine uses in its other applications.

Stock peak on the xDrive28i is 248 hp / 258 lb-ft. We do not publish a peak number we have not put on the dyno for this chassis, so you will not find one here — the calibration is built from datalogs on your specific car, on the fuel you actually buy.

Below: every tune and part we ship that fits the F48. The X1 is a small chapter of the B48 story, but the engine in it responds to a calibration the same way it does in every other car BMW dropped it into.

ANSWERED

Before you tune.

Will my dealer flag the tune at service?

The bootmod3 flash is non-destructive and reversible. Revert to stock before a dealer appointment and the ECU is back to factory in a few minutes; re-flash after service. We document the revert step in writing so the next person opening your file knows what's there.

Is it safe for the engine?

Every tune we ship has been datalogged on the car it was written for. We look at knock counts, fuel trims, boost behavior, and intake temps before we sign off. If the numbers don't sit right, we revise. That review and the revision policy are built into what the tune costs.

How long until I have a working tune?

Most calibrations turn around in a few days. We log, review, and revise before anything ships — we would rather get it right than get it out fast.

Can I go back to stock?

Yes. bootmod3 supports a stock revert that returns the ECU to factory calibration in under five minutes. The flash is non-destructive — nothing in the BMW DME is permanently modified. Most owners revert before trade-in.
