Build this stage Stage 3 methodologyThe 540i is the 5 Series for people who want to be quick without announcing it. It looks like every other executive sedan in the lot, and underneath it runs the B58 — the same 3.0-liter turbo six as the M340i and the Supra, here making around 335 hp.
Same engine, same tuning behavior (the full B58 story is on the G20 page), so a calibration turns a big, comfortable, understated sedan into one that quietly closes the gap to cars wearing louder badges. The 530i below it runs the B48 four (around 250 hp) — the efficient daily, still responsive to a flash. Neither asks you to give up the refinement that made you buy a 5 Series in the first place.
The honest part is the same family maintenance every B58/B48 car shares — the oil-filter-housing gasket chief among them (detail on the G20 page) — plus the simple reality that a heavier sedan wants its supporting mods sized to match. But the platform is willing, and the payoff is specific: a luxury sedan that surprises the people who assumed it was only transportation.
That's the 540i's whole appeal — serious pace in the trim nobody suspects, on an engine that takes a tune as well as anything BMW builds.

Will my dealer flag the tune at service?
The bootmod3 flash is non-destructive and reversible. Revert to stock before a dealer appointment and the ECU is back to factory in a few minutes; re-flash after service. We document the revert step in writing so the next person opening your file knows what's there.
Is it safe for the engine?
Every tune we ship has been datalogged on the car it was written for. We look at knock counts, fuel trims, boost behavior, and intake temps before we sign off. If the numbers don't sit right, we revise. That review and the revision policy are built into what the tune costs.
How long until I have a working tune?
Most calibrations turn around in a few days. We log, review, and revise before anything ships — we would rather get it right than get it out fast.
Can I go back to stock?
Yes. bootmod3 supports a stock revert that returns the ECU to factory calibration in under five minutes. The flash is non-destructive — nothing in the BMW DME is permanently modified. Most owners revert before trade-in.
