Build this stage Stage 3 methodologyThe X3 is the best-selling BMW there is, which means more of these leave the lot than any M car — and most owners never realize what's under the M40i. It's the B58, the same 3.0-liter six as the M340i and the Supra (around 382 hp in US trim), in BMW's compact SAV. The xDrive30i runs the B48 four (252 hp), the efficient daily.
Same engine, same tuning behavior (full B58 story on the G20 page): a calibration turns the everyday family X3 into something that surprises people, All4 traction putting the power down cleanly. This is also the platform that, in full M form (the F97 X3 M), *debuted* the S58 — so the X3 line runs from sensible daily to the engine that powers the M3.
The honest notes are the familiar B58/B48 items (the oil-filter-housing gasket; see the G20 page) and the mass a taller SUV adds. But the willingness is there.
So the G01 earns its page like everything else — the volume SUV that builds, on the same six that makes the sport sedans quick.

Will my dealer flag the tune at service?
The bootmod3 flash is non-destructive and reversible. Revert to stock before a dealer appointment and the ECU is back to factory in a few minutes; re-flash after service. We document the revert step in writing so the next person opening your file knows what's there.
Is it safe for the engine?
Every tune we ship has been datalogged on the car it was written for. We look at knock counts, fuel trims, boost behavior, and intake temps before we sign off. If the numbers don't sit right, we revise. That review and the revision policy are built into what the tune costs.
How long until I have a working tune?
Most calibrations turn around in a few days. We log, review, and revise before anything ships — we would rather get it right than get it out fast.
Can I go back to stock?
Yes. bootmod3 supports a stock revert that returns the ECU to factory calibration in under five minutes. The flash is non-destructive — nothing in the BMW DME is permanently modified. Most owners revert before trade-in.
