ER Competition Series Catless Downpipes — S55
Evolution Racewerks Competition Series twin downpipes for the S55 — F80 M3, F82 M4, F83 M4 Convertible, F87 M2 Competition. Twin 3.5" mandrel-bent T304 stainless pipes — one per turbo. The largest downpipe section in ER's catalog for a reason: the S55 makes meaningful exhaust flow that the OEM downpipes deliberately restrict for noise compliance.
The S55 and downpipes
The OEM S55 downpipes are restrictive enough that even un-tuned M3/M4 owners commonly report a meaningful difference from a downpipe alone. On Stage 2 and Stage 3 builds, OEM downpipes become the single biggest exhaust restriction — replacing them is standard for any serious F8X tune.
For the F87 M2 Competition specifically
Same engine as the M3/M4 but in a smaller chassis with slightly different exhaust routing. These downpipes drop post-turbo back-pressure to the level the S55's wastegate strategy expects, sharpening throttle response across the rev range.
Catless vs Catted
Catless: race-only, twin 3.5" pipes, no cat material. CEL on stock cal — Esse Werks Stage 2/3 calibrations clear it. Standard choice for track-driven F8X builds.
High-Flow Catted: 200-cell metallic cats in both pipes. CEL-clean on stock cal. Community-observed flow sits close to the catless pipes for street and most track use.

EGT bung included — standard on every Esse Werks ER order
Evolution Racewerks offers the EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) sensor bung as an optional add-on on their direct catalog. We include it on every ER downpipe / mid pipe we ship — no upcharge. Comes pre-installed with a 1/8" NPT plug so you don't need to run the EGT sensor immediately. When you're ready to add EGT monitoring to your build (recommended at Stage 2 and above for any sustained-load driving), the bung is already there.
SwainTech White Lightning — our signature coating
When we coat a part, we use one coating: SwainTech White Lightning — a true ceramic thermal barrier applied about 0.015" thick (versus roughly 0.002" for paint-style "ceramic" finishes) and sprayed molten so it bonds to the metal instead of sitting on top. It cuts radiant heat off the exhaust by roughly 35–55%, dropping underhood and intake temperatures, and keeps heat inside the pipe where it sustains exhaust velocity and scavenging. And it's white — a deliberate signature in a market that otherwise all looks the same in black. Select it above.
California restriction
This product is not for sale, installation, or use on licensed vehicles in the State of California. 49-state product. Vehicle Compliance Waiver signed at order intake. International orders ship without restriction.
